Risks of Taking Steroids

"I don't believe in bodybuilders using steroids. If a man doesn't have enough male hormones in his system to create a nice, hard, muscular body, he should take up ping pong."

-Steve Reeves

A pandemonium is spreading.

It's been around since the late 20th Century.

Not Ebola.

Not Dad-bods.

I'm talking 'bout 'roids. T-boosters, HGH injections (yes, HGH is a steroid too)... call them what you will, but they all are synthetic and deadly.

In case any of you are considering taking these drugs, I have an answer for you.

Let me say that again.

This article shouldn't even be necessary. Despite all the decades of research and anecdotal evidence, numerous athletes and bodybuilders still take steroids today.

Don't believe me? Well let me ask you this: do you see big, bulky guys at your gym who never do less than 20 reps on a given set yet are still massive and cut?

Most of them are on steroids. The reason they do such high reps is because their tendons and ligaments can't take the pressure of heavy weightlifting. A natural lifter would NEVER look that way if they trained solely with reps that high.

None the less, here are 5 legitimate risks and reasons for you to never take these performance enhancements:

1) Shortened Life Expectancy

Want to end up dead at 40?

Scratch that; how about in your 20s?

Aziz Shavershian, commonly known to the Internet as "Zyzz," died at only 22 years of age. Now admittedly, his family had a history of heart problems and he did die of a heart attack. But even in a family with heart problems, 22 is VERY young to pass away. Frankly, the overriding factor was his extreme and blatant steroid use.

Part of the problem with steroids is that the higher resting testosterone level will influence ALL your muscles to grow, including internal organs. Your heart muscle is NOT designed to get bigger, yet pumping needles every day will cause it to expand until it eventually bursts.

2) Hormonal Changes

Steroids really screw up the hormonal profiles for both men and women.

Risks for men include:

  • Smaller genital size
  • Reduced sperm count
  • Development of female breasts
  • Baldness
  • Increased risk for prostate cancer

Risks for women include:

  • Growth of facial hair
  • Baldness
  • Reduction or elimination of the menstrual cycle
  • Deepened voice

3) Impotence

Want kids?

Scratch that; do you want to be able to have intercourse?

Stay away from steroids.

For both men and women, steroids will impair fertility to the point where you would be completely impotent.

4) Increased Risk of Injury

As I mentioned before, people on steroids can't go heavier than 15 reps; there's too much risk of their muscles and tendons snapping.

The science is simple honestly: natural weightlifting will help increase your bone density. On top of that, there is a finite limit to how much muscle you can naturally build.

Steroids, on the other hand, increases the limit immensely. However, only the growth limit of the muscles is increased; the skeletal system cannot grow any further. As a result, the muscles push tendons and joints to a point where they can't handle the load.

5) Legal & Monetary Consequences

Steroids aren't cheap.

Heck, they aren't even legal!

If you seriously begin investigating a way to purchase anabolic steroids, you're walking on a slippery slope.

Just possessing steroids can land you in prison for a year; you could potentially end up in jail for 5 years with a $250,000 fine to pay.
